history

The stately Gothic small town church dating from 1406 to 1456 protrudes over the urban residential buildings. Structural changes were carried out around 1700 and 1900, including the expansion of the choir to the east. Another restoration took place between 1980 and 1985, with the interior being largely changed. In 2013, the roof was refurbished and re-covered with funds from the KIBA Foundation, and other measures to protect iron parts from corrosion were carried out.

The hall church is provided with a three-sided choir closure and is illuminated by pointed arched windows , some of which still show traces of tracery , on the north side an arched curtain window with a profiled framework can be seen. The four-story tower is closed on the ground floor by a groin vault , on the upper floor there are cross-storey windows and sound openings with tracery, and a curved dome forms the end .

Furnishing

The pulpit altar from 1728 was restored in 1992, has three-dimensional leaves and fruit and shows the personifications of faith, love, hope and loyalty above the passageways . The font was created in 1589 by Mauritius Becke. Several figures of saints, remains of a winged altar and some figures from the pulpit of the former cemetery church in the manner of Hans Friedemann the Younger from 1635 should also be mentioned. A torso of a Pietà was created towards the end of the 14th century, a figure of St. Lawrence at the beginning of the 16th century. Several tombstones from the 16th century should also be mentioned, including that of Philipp von Beichlingen from 1553.

The organ in a richly decorated case is a work by Johann Michael Hartung from 1728 with 20 stops on two manuals and a pedal .
