St. Laurentius and Elisabeth is the Catholic parish church in Aulzhausen in the Bavarian district of Aichach-Friedberg . The church, consecrated to the patrons Laurentius of Rome and Elisabeth of Thuringia , was built in the 18th century and is a protected architectural monument .

history

The square substructure of the tower probably dates from the 15th century. The baroque church was built by Philipp Cramer between 1734 and 1748 and consecrated by the Augsburg auxiliary bishop Johann Jakob von Mayr .

Pastor Michael Lingg (1683–1762; pastor in Aulzhausen from 1721 to 1762) financed the parish church. In 1762 he founded a school foundation in Aulzhausen. The Pfarrer-Lingg-Straße in Aulzhausen is named after him.

architecture

The flat-roofed hall is structured by pilaster strips . The retracted choir, closed on three sides , is covered by a barrel cap. On the north side is the tower with an octagon and onion dome .

Furnishing

For the church fittings succeeded Rev. Michael Lingg (1683-1752) well-known artists to win such. B. Johann and Ignaz Finsterwalder ( stucco ), the Asam student Christoph Thomas Scheffler ( frescoes , high altar paintings), Dominikus Bergmüller from Türkheim (high altar), Johann Georg Bergmüller (side altar paintings ) and Johann Georg Dieffenbrunner (fresco under the gallery ).

Choir fresco

Dedication of the church by Pastor Lingg to Maria, Elisabeth and Laurentius
The main fresco of the choir (1734) by Christoph Thomas Scheffler shows how Pastor Lingg in the middle of the parish the model of his village church of Our Lady and the two church patrons , St. Laurentius (with the Rost) and St. Elisabeth (with bread and jug). For their part, Mary and the two patron saints recommend the Church to the care of the Holy Trinity . The coat of arms of the Augsburg patrician family Langenmantel can be seen on the church model .

The representation of the Trinity (Trinity) is remarkable. God the Father is enthroned in the middle, the Holy Spirit dove floats in front of his chest and in front of it Jesus Christ is present in the form of a host ( body of Christ ) ( Ekklesia thought).

High altar painting

The high altar -Painting by Christoph Thomas Scheffler is like the choir fresco of three levels. At the bottom are the representatives of the earthly church, the pleading and pleading people of God (represented by a family). The center of the picture is dominated by the representatives of the heavenly Church: St. Lawrence with the grate and St. Elisabeth in the habit of a Franciscan tertiary who renounces her earthly crown and devotes herself to the poor.

Above in the picture above a globe the most holy trinity is enthroned - on the right God the Father with the scepter pointing downwards, pointing to the earth, on the left the Son of God with the sign of redemption, the cross, in his right hand, with the left hand pointing to the earth and looking pleadingly at the Father . In the middle, slightly exalted, the Holy Spirit, depicted as a man with a shining white beard and hair, his head surrounded by seven tongues of fire (the gifts of the Holy Spirit ) and on his chest the dove of the Holy Spirit. He puts his hands on the shoulders of the father and the son. Above the throne of the Trinity is the symbol of unity: the triangle with the Hebrew name of God " Yahweh ". - It is remarkable that Jesus does not sit on the right hand of the Father (cf. Heb 1,EU , Acts 7.55  EU ), but on the right hand of the Holy Spirit.
