The Roman Catholic branch church St. Luzia in Nettersheim - Engelgau belongs, like the Ahekapelle, to the parish Zingsheim- Engelgau in the community of the parishes of St. Hermann-Josef Steinfeld ( Diocese of Aachen ). The church is dedicated to the holy martyr Lucia . It is a protected architectural monument .

Building history

The former chapel in Engelgau, the previous building, consisted of a nave with two window axes, a chancel to which a sacristy was attached, and a west tower with a vestibule in front and which was just as wide as the adjoining nave.

The Engelgauer decided in 1933 to demolish the church, which had become too small, except for the western tower with its vestibule, which dates from the 15th century, and to replace it with a new church attached to the tower. Construction of the church began in 1934 and was consecrated in 1937.

The new building is a quarry stone hall and has a transept. The building plans came from the Cologne architect Rolf Distel. The church has 120 seats and 100 standing places. Like the previous building, it is not oriented strictly to the east. In 2003 and 2004 the church was extensively renovated.

Furnishing

The celebration altar was installed in the church in 1987.

In the church there is a Servatius reliquary, which is important for the Ahekapelle, and a Lucia reliquary.
