history

A chapel in Kall was first mentioned in a document in 1238. At that time, the place belonged to the Steinfeld parish as a branch. It was not until 1710 that Kall received its own vicar and was finally raised to an independent parish in 1802 . The chapel mentioned in 1238 still existed until around 1890.

As early as the 1880s, the old church was too small for the increased population, so that from 1880 collections began to build a new and larger church. In 1890, the Cologne architect Theodor Kremer was finally commissioned to plan a new building. Then the old church was torn down except for the choir . The foundation stone for the construction of the new church was laid on July 19, 1891. 1892 which took place Benedizierung of the building. In 1903 the bell tower was finally added. Between 1933 and 1934, a sacristy was built according to plans by the later Cologne cathedral builder Willy Weyres . In the last two years of World War II , the neo-Gothic church was destroyed except for the tower.

A new church was built by 1951, including the remains of the bell tower. The Aachen architect Peter Salm provided the plans . The consecration of today's church took place on October 21, 1951.

architecture

St. Nicholas is a two-aisled church with a flat-roofed central nave, a semicircular apse in the east and a southern, four-bay aisle, which has a barrel vault in each bay . The bell tower in the south-west corner dates back to 1903 on the lower three floors and has neo-Gothic elements . Like the rest of the church, the top floor was built around 1951. The windows as well as the arcades between the main and side aisles and the triumphal arch between the choir and the main nave close in a round arch. The entire building is made of bricks, which are plastered, as is typical of the churches in the Eifel .

Furnishing

There is modern equipment in the interior. It is worth mentioning the circular wall painting in the choir, which depicts Jesus Christ , who is holding a book in his left hand and is surrounded by a halo. It was designed and installed in 1986 by Anna Zwolinska and Adam Suchecki. The stained glass windows were created by the Aachen artist Maria Katzgrau in 1954.
