The Roman Catholic village church of St. Marien is in the Rimbach district of Bornhagen in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

history

The original village church was built before 1400. The village and the church burned down in 1429 fighters from the cities of Erfurt , Mühlhausen and Nordhausen . The constantly recurring pilgrimages by Catholics to the Pietà of St. Mary's Church were the reason to rebuild the church and the village as soon as possible.

At first the steeple of the church was still open to be used as a control room .

Today's typical double tower of the church dates from 1921.

Furnishing

The high altar is to date back to 1500 and originally in the chapel of Hanstein have stood. The winged altar from 1401 is a late Gothic triptych . A crucifixion group is shown , which is framed by other holy figures such as Boniface .

In addition, the oldest baptismal font in the Eichsfeld is in the church . It was created in 1406.

The 14 Stations of the Cross frescoes on the north and south walls of the nave were attached in 1936 by the Würzburg painters Willi Wolf and Willy Jacob.
