The Catholic parish church of St. Nikolaus in Nürburg , a local parish in the Ahrweiler district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built in the 15th century and changed during the Baroque period . It is centrally located in the main street.

history

A church in Nürburg is mentioned in documents as early as 1202 , which was dedicated to St. Nicholas was consecrated .

architecture

The Gothic choir dates from the 15th century and has three keystones in its vault with the coat of arms of the Archdiocese of Cologne and the Counts of Virneburg , as well as the Nürburg coat of arms. The roof of the choir is dated to 1444.

The baroque nave , which was extended in 1953, adjoins the choir .

The oldest windows are in the choir, they were created before the First World War . The three brightly colored leaded glass windows show the Annunciation (left window), the crucifixion of Christ (middle window) and the birth of Christ (right window). The lower part of the outer windows shows knights with their coats of arms kneeling in front of a prayer desk.

Furnishing

The neo-Gothic high altar was built in the 19th century and has a richly decorated tabernacle . The celebration altar was created in 1976 by the Adenau artist Georg Gehring. It depicts the burning bush as a sign of God's presence.

The baptismal font from 1660 is one of the oldest pieces of equipment in the church, with statues of the following saints: Maria , Nikolaus, Elisabeth of Thuringia and Stephanus .

The portal , which was cast in bronze in 2007 , shows scenes from the life of St. Nikolaus and on the inside the route of the Nürburgring , the parish church of St. Nikolaus, the chapel in Meuspath , the former rectory and the Nürburg .

Bells

Of the bells, a three-part bronze peal from the Ulrich company from Apolda should be emphasized, which dates from 1928.
