history

A church in Neuerburg is first mentioned in a document in 1341 , it was probably built in the second half of the 11th century. From this church the tympanum with a crucifixion group is still preserved, which was long above the entrance portal to the keep .

The construction of the late Gothic two-nave church began in 1492. The lords of Neuerburg, as landlords, were required to build, but took their time with the construction, so that the church was not completed until 1570.

The plastered building was expanded in 1912/13 according to the plans of the architect Julius Wirtz . The nave was extended by a yoke to the west, which today corresponds roughly to the organ loft . An extensive renovation was carried out between 1976 and 1984.

Interior

The church has a net vault made of sandstone with keystones , which are decorated with coats of arms , figures and floral tendrils. The coats of arms of the Counts of Virneburg , Manderscheid , Rodemacher and Schleiden can be seen on the keystones in the choir .

The consoles of the wall half- columns show busts of the twelve apostles . In 1913 sculptures of St. Nicholas and St. Katharina added to the organ railing. The late Gothic sacrament shrine , also made of sandstone, which is closed with wrought-iron doors, and the baptismal font from the time of the builder should be emphasized .

The pulpit is from the 17th century and the popular altar was made of light limestone in the early 1980s .

organ

In 1980 the church received a new mechanical organ from the Weigle company .
