The church

The Protestant village church of St. Peter is located in the municipality of Oßmannstedt in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia .

history

Already in 1263 a pastor was proven in the place, so that there must have already been a church or chapel. The church was first mentioned in documents in 1297 and was designated as the parish church in 1303 . Next to the church there was the Oßmannstedt chapel , which was given away in 1297 as the patronage of the Marienknechtskloster Himmelgarten in Russungen near Nordhausen .

The current church most likely had a previous building. This is proven by components on the church tower . A pointed arched door on its north side leads into a Gothic room (probably the crypt ). The tower has three storeys up to half the roof height of the nave. In the lower storeys, columns of light can be seen, as they were common in the Middle Ages . Four late Gothic pointed arch windows can be seen on the second floor. It was through them that the bells later came into the tower.

There are three bells hanging in the tower. Two were made of cast iron in 1915 as replacements. The little bell was publicly poured in 1999 for Thanksgiving . All bells have recommending inscriptions .

The late Gothic nave with pointed arch windows is 23.8 meters long and 9.80 meters wide. A renovation by the master builder Nicolaus Deiner is recorded for the year 1610. He cleverly combined the new with the old. The baptismal font is decorated with angel heads and ornaments. A coat of arms from Teuner is attached. An oil painting hangs above the baptismal font as a gift from the hunting tenant Gimprecht.

The baroque pulpit is behind the 17th century altar . Figures next to the pulpit Maria and Johannes as well as two epitaphs of the Harras family can be seen.

The organ created in 1810 from the workshop of the organ builder Johann Benjamin Witzmann from Stadtilm in the ship was inaugurated on June 26th 2010 after the restoration ( organ building Waltershausen ). It has 21 registers , which are divided into two manuals and pedal .

The crucifix is in the entrance area.
