St. Peter and Paul

St. Peter and Paul is one of the two Catholic churches in the Oesede district of the city of Georgsmarienhütte . It was built between 1903 and 1906 as a hall church in neo-Gothic style according to plans by the architect Wilhelm Sunder-Plaßmann . On May 31, 1906, the church was consecrated by Bishop Hubertus Voss .

The community, which belongs to the Diocese of Osnabrück , forms a parish community with the Holy Spirit (Oesede), St. Maria Frieden (Georgsmarienhütte- Harderberg ) and St. Johann / St. Marien (Oesede Monastery).

Previous buildings

A previous building was dedicated to St. Remigius . The oldest part of the St. Remigius Church was the steeple from the 13th century. A new building of the church became necessary because the founding of the steelworks of the Georgs-Marien-Bergwerks- und Hüttenverein in the middle of the 19th century moved many workers to Oesede. The St. Remigius Church was demolished after the St. Peter and Paul Church was completed in 1906.

Interior

High altar

The high altar was a foundation of the Oeseder entrepreneur Carl Stahmer († 1905). The design came from the Osnabrück sculptor Lukas Memken (1860–1934). The substructure with carved column elements and depictions of saints is made of marble ; the neo-Gothic altarpiece made of oak covered with gold leaf . Inserted next to the tabernacle are six holy figures of Peter , Paul , Benedict , Boniface , Elisabeth and Agnes . Relics of the martyrs Leopardus and Micinius were set in the altar table . The two side altars were created by the Osnabrück sculptor Heinrich Seling (1843–1912).

pulpit

In 1912, on the initiative of MGV Harmonia, the pulpit, carved from oak by the sculptor Memken, was installed.

Baptismal font

The bronze funtion dates from the 13th century . In the upper third, the Fünte has a surrounding frieze of figures in bas-relief. They represent Christ, a prophet and the twelve apostles.

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1969 by the Speith-Orgelbau workshop in Rietberg . It has 40 registers and 3284 pipes , three manuals plus a pedal .

Bells

The original bronze bells were delivered for armaments purposes in 1917 and melted down. The bronze bell, newly acquired in 1922, was lost in the same way in the Second World War. A cast steel bell has been hanging in the bell tower since 1948 .
