St. Peter and Paul (Höxter)
The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul is a church building inaugurated in 1960 in Petrifeld, a district of Höxter , North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
Because in the decade after the Second World War many immigrants, including from East German areas , found living space in the Petrifeld west of Höxter's city center, the desire for a separate church for the people in the new settlement grew. Until 1958, services were held in the kindergarten's chapel . The parish dean at the time created the prerequisites for building his own house of worship by founding a church building community . Each member of the building community pledged to sacrifice an amount equal to one month's income in 50 months.
In 1959 the groundbreaking took place . On March 30, 1959, the foundation stone was laid by Cathedral Chapter Henneke. On June 30, 1960, after almost 16 months of construction, Archbishop Jäger declared the "Parish Vicarie St. Peter and Paul without its own asset management" to have been built. On January 15, 1969, the Vicarie received the status of an independent parish .
description
The church was built from 1959 to 1960 according to plans by the architect Hermann Gröne from Geseke . The architecture of the church was deliberately kept simple. Above the three-door entrance is the Holy Spirit window, a round window divided into four by double cross beams , which lets "fire colors" wander through the church when sunlight falls. Clemens Ortmann designed this ornament with the ornaments on the windows in the baptistery in 1960.
To the left of the entrance hall there is a separate baptistery as a round building . Gröne dispensed with pillars in order to emphasize the depth of the room and to allow a clear view of the Christ image and the altar. Under the chancel there is a crypt , which can be reached through an entrance on the left.
A wide, flat ceiling, divided lengthways with beams, leads the beholder's eyes to the choir , which closes off the nave in the form of a rectangular apse .
The church is dominated by a high prism-shaped tower that ends with a flat tent roof and stands free like a campanile .
Furnishing
The current appearance of St. Peter and Paul is shaped by the influences of the sculptor Josef Baron and the artist Hermann Gottfried . During a first major renovation in 1972, extensive changes were made both inside and outside.
The entire choir was redesigned, provided with a free-standing altar made of light gray natural stone and a new altar cross, both created by the sculptor Baron.
In 1992, the artist Hermann Gottfried designed the side windows, which are thematically divided into Old and New Testament motifs. The addition of a new way of the cross by the sculptor Baron marked the end of the redesign in 1996.
organ
Today's organ was built in 1974 by the Westfälischer Orgelbau S. Sauer workshop . It has 23 registers on two manuals and a pedal . The organ's slide chests are equipped with a mechanical action mechanism and an electrical stop action mechanism. The following disposition was created at the time of construction:
