St. Peter and Paul (Ried)
The Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Ried , a district of the municipality of Jettingen-Scheppach in the district of Günzburg in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia , was built in the 15th century in the late Gothic style. The choir and tower have been preserved from this period , the nave was renewed in the middle of the 18th century. The church is dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul .

Exterior construction
The tower covered with a gable roof rises in the northern corner of the choir , the floors of which are divided by cornices with three-pass friezes. Pin-like corner attachments crown the tower. The top floor is broken up by triple, arched sound arcades that rest on stepped central columns.
inner space
The church is a flat-roofed hall building . A round chancel arch opens to the retracted, closed on three sides choir provided by lunettes tonne is vaulted.
The walls of the choir and nave are pierced by large arched windows, and two transverse oval windows open on the west facade. The western end of the nave is formed by a gallery that rests on two wooden columns with carved capitals and the parapet is decorated with stucco and paintings. The middle gallery depicts King David playing the harp.
Stucco and ceiling painting
The stucco and ceiling paintings in the choir date from around 1710/20 and have in some cases been heavily renewed. The central ceiling painting of the choir depicts Jesus and the apostle John . The side scenes are dedicated to the four great occidental doctors of the Church, Ambrosius of Milan , Augustine of Hippo , Jerome and Pope Gregory the Great . Two other medallions depict the dove, the symbol of the Holy Spirit , and the eye of God . The nave frescoes were executed in 1908 by the church painter Leonhard Thoma (1864–1921), who lived in Jettingen . The theme of the central ceiling painting is the Holy Family . Joseph is portrayed as a carpenter, Mary with a spindle and the baby Jesus feeds pigeons.
Furnishing
- The high altar is a work of the late 19th century. In the middle there is a crucifixion group, the side figures represent the patron saints Peter (right) and Paul (left).
- The two side altars are marked 1713/14. The left altar has a carving depicting the root of Jesse . On the right altar there is a resurrection Christ. It is framed by the half-length figures of the fourteen helpers in need , who sit on the flowers of a bush and are endowed with their attributes .
- The pulpit dates from 1727. The sound cover is adorned with angel putti, the pulpit is decorated with putti heads. The figure of John the Baptist on the pulpit is attributed to Stephan Luidl's circle .
