St. Peter in chains

The Roman Catholic village church St. Petrus in Ketten is in the community of Reinholterode in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

history

The first church was built in the middle of the village. It was probably before the 13th century, because the village was already classified as an independent parish village . The pastor Edelgher could call himself village priest from 1238. Until the 16th century the place owned the mother church .

The new village church

In 1755 the old church was torn down. The new village church , which was built between 1755 and 1768 as a joint effort by the villagers, stands on their land . The bishop Johann Friedrich von Lasser from Mainz consecrated it on October 3, 1864.

Architecture and equipment

The church has a simple basic shape and the octagonal choir in the east. The church tower is included in the west of the building. A sundial is installed above the south portal . The tower has a Welsche dome covered with slate . The first bells were withdrawn as a metal donation during the First World War. The small bell remained in the church because of its historical value, but broke in 1921. A new historical bell hangs from its parts in the church. The outer stone-faced quarry sandstone wall with base has arched windows. The east choir wall with the arched niche and the sculpture of Antonius emphasizes the importance of the house.

The interior of the barrel vault is spanned with intersecting stitch caps. The two-storey tower room is opened and connected to the nave on both sides by pointed arches . The arched pillars support the tower.

The baroque high altar is said to have been moved from the Teistungenburg monastery to here. It was created in 1760 and wears Christian jewelry, such as the lamentation of Christ on the cross . On the sides are the sculptures Peter and Paul. Above it is a portrait of the resurrection of Jesus Christ with other holy figures. To the south of the nave is the Marien Altar . In the northeast is the pulpit from 1760. Like the pulpit, the arched basket is framed by Christian figures and jewelry. The font is in the tower room. It dates from the 17th century. The stalls have baroque cheeks.

In 1953 two new bells were consecrated.

After the political change

1990 was renovated and renewed. This was later followed by paving work in the church. In 1996 the church received a new Ahlborn organ . The bell system was renewed in 1998. In 1999 the foundations on the church tower had to be underpinned. A renovation took place inside. After 2003 the roofs were renewed and then the exterior renovation took place.
