History and architecture

The place name, which is derived from "Brunonis Capella", indicates a foundation by the Archbishop of Cologne, Bruno (953–963). Archbishop Anno II transferred the church to the newly founded Grafschaft monastery in 1072. Apparently the old church burned down in 1759, because that year the local pastor received permission from the auxiliary bishop of Cologne to use the newly built church. Apparently the renovation of the church dedicated to St. Servatius continued until 1764. The quarry stone masonry of the single-nave, four-bay building with a three-sixth end was plastered. The vaults consist of curved oak rafters with waves. The wall pilasters were designed without a base profile, only with a cornice . The arched belts consist of curved rafters and are suspended from the roof structure . In order to have to bend the ridge and fillet frames as little as possible, the wooden vaults were pulled high into the roof. The longitudinal walls are divided by four smooth arched windows, the two sloping walls of the choir by transverse oval windows. The door and window frames were made of sandstone. A smaller door, 1.00 × 2.00 m in size, is installed under the south window in front of the gate; it was probably an older entrance. The roofs are covered with slate , a six-sided roof turret with small sound openings stands over the last ship's bay. The church floor is covered with stone slabs. The church was extensively renovated in 1968 and 1998.

West tower

The tower was built in the 13th century. The organ floor is vaulted in a west-east direction with a semicircular barrel. The west windows were enlarged in the 20th century. A staircase in the stronger south wall leads over the vault of the organ floor into the bell room, which is equipped with a round window. Above the window there is a niche with the figure of St. Servatius let in. The tower walls are equally thick above the stairs. The walls of the bell chamber are divided by a sound opening with a round arch. The spire is a four-sided tent roof that merges into an octagon .

South portal

The south portal with richly profiled walls was made with a segmental arch . On the ornamental frieze with cartouche , between the keystone and the cornice, a saying of the time can be read: DEO ET SANCTO SERVATIO TEMPLO PATROCINANTI (1758) .

sacristy

The later grown Sakristei with an irregular 3 / 6 -Schluss the eastern choir wall covered. A barrel vault is built in behind the rectangular field with cross vaults. The crown of the cross vault was decorated with stucco . The sloping terrain to the east results in a vaulted cellar under the sacristy.

The cranked entablature is crowned with two-storey volutes . The putti of the curly cornice pieces over the outer pillars in relation to the crucifixion group. The one on the left carries a lance, the one on the right a sponge attached to a stick. The figures were renewed in 1907. After a church fire in 1998, the altar was renewed.
