The Catholic parish church of St. Simon and Judas Thaddäus is a listed church building in Etteln , a district of the Borchen municipality in the Paderborn district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The cross-vaulted , simple hall was built from 1748 to 1749 in the baroque style. The square west tower also dates from this period. The transept and choir were added in 1953.

  • The high altar from the first quarter of the 18th century is colored and made of oak. From 1953 to 1954 it was supplemented by the side parts with fruit hangers and the colored wooden figures of the church patron .
  • The tabernacle was rebuilt in 1902 and 1954
  • The altar painting with the motifs of the Assumption of Mary and the Holy Trinity ( Coronation of Mary ) was painted by Franz Joseph Brand from Paderborn.
  • The north side altar is a Baroque retable from around 1749. It is made of oak and painted in color, with figures of saints painted in color . Saints Peter and Liborius from the last third of the 19th century and a painting on canvas with the Rosary Madonna from 1957 are shown. The altar cross with its colored wooden body comes from the middle of the 18th century.
  • The southern side altar, a Baroque retable from the time the church was built, is made of colored oak. The wooden figures of St. Catherine and St. Joseph are from 1902, the altar painting on canvas with the scene of the finding of the cross from 1957.
  • The two neo-baroque parapet reliefs of the colored wooden pulpit without a foot depict Jesus preaching . On the sound cover there is a colored wooden figure of the Archangel Michael .
  • The two-part wooden choir stalls without colored frames come from the time the church was built. The ornamentation and the tops made of softwood are neo-baroque and come from the first quarter of the 20th century, they are painted white.
  • The wooden communion bench is provided with relief medallions, the fillings of which are white. It conveys stylistic elements of Neo-Baroque and Neo-Renaissance between 1904 and 1924. The bench was extended in 1954 and adapted to the rounding of the choir steps. The substructure with the knee bench has been removed.
  • The two wooden confessionals are framed in white. Paintings of St. Peter and St. Magdalena from the time the church was built can be seen on the top.
  • The church pews, made of unmounted oak with carved cheeks, date from the time the building was built. The angle of the backrest was changed in 1985, and ornaments on the cheeks were carved according to photos.
  • The font with a wooden, colored lid comes from the second half of the 17th century.
  • The Vesper picture from 1677 comes from the Kluskapelle .
  • A color from the first half of the 17th century succinct iron fence with two painted panels, the Annunciation and Christ as a gardener is.
  • The six wooden supports under the organ gallery from the time of construction are framed in white,
  • A wooden Pietà from the first half of the 18th century with a height of 77 centimeters is framed in white.
  • A crucifixion group in the four-nail type is flanked by the holy Mary and Jonannes the Baptist made of wood. The figures are painted in color.
