St. Stephen

The Evangelical Lutheran Village Church St. Stephen stands at Olle Weg 1, the municipality Eckstedt in district Sömmerda in Thuringia . It is named after St. Stephen . The parish Eckstedt belongs to the parish area Udestedt in Kirchenkreis Apolda Buttstaedt the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Building description

From 1740 to 1744 the church was built on the site of a medieval predecessor in a uniform plait style. The plastered with quoins provided hall church was renovated in 1863/64. The nave has an elongated, octagonal floor plan . It is covered with a hipped mansard roof. The oval interior is provided with circumferential, two-story galleries in which boxes are built. The organ with 14 registers , divided into 2 manuals and pedal , was built around 1900 by an unknown organ builder.
