St. Willibrord is the Catholic parish church consecrated to St. Willibrord in Bachem in Saarland , a district of the municipality of Losheim am See in the Merzig-Wadern district . In the list of monuments of the Saarland the church building is a single monument listed.

history

The predecessor of today's church was a Willibrords chapel , which was demolished in 1922 after an emergency church had been established in 1919 .

After three prior plans were discarded, took place in 1923, the foundation stone was laid , designed by the architect Dombaumeister Julius Wirtz ( Trier ). The consecration took place on September 13, 1924. Due to the construction of the church, Bachem was declared a chapel community before the place was raised to an independent parish in 1944 . Shortly before the end of World War II , a grenade hit the church roof , causing the vaults below to collapse. During the reconstruction, the high pyramid roof was replaced by a lower one.

In 1951, the bell tower was built next to the church according to plans by architects Anton Latz and Toni Laub ( Saarwellingen ). There have been three new bells in the tower since 1953 .

In 2012 the church was renovated .

Furnishing

In the sanctuary is located since 1935 a large cross that of two wooden relief images to other of the birth and the resurrection of Jesus flanked. A figure of St. Willibrord stands on a console on the right front wall of the interior. The church also has a bronze Way of the Cross and stained glass windows depicting saints .

organ

The organ of the church was built in 1966 by the company Romanus Seifert & Sohn ( Kevelaer ). The instrument, which is set up on a gallery , has 25 (26) registers , divided between two manuals and a pedal . For the wind supply of the manuals provide sliderchest with lying in the wind box Balanciers for which the pedal cone chests . The game and stop action is electro-pneumatic. The pitch is 440 Hz.
