Stacy Lattisaw

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stacy Lattisaw Jackson (* 25. November 1966 in Washington, DC ) is an American Pop - R & B - Soul - and disco - singer . Her biggest hit is the song Jump to the Beat from 1980.

biography

Lattisaw sang in a duet with her mother Sandra at the age of five . In high school , she was a member of a group where Marvin Gaye played the piano . At the age of eleven, she became a professional singer and performed at fashion shows . Lattisaw gained further notoriety through an appearance in the opening act of Ramsey Lewis , in which she performed five songs. At the age of twelve she recorded her first LP , which was produced by Van McCoy . The album Young and in Love was released in 1979 on Cotillion Records. The disc version of the song When You're Young and in Love contained on it , of which the record also contains a ballad version, was a huge success and reached number 91 on the Billboard R&B Singles .

The international breakthrough came in 1980 when the single Jump to the Beat / Dynamite climbed # 1 in the Dance Music / Club Play Singles. In the British charts the song Jump to the Beat rose to number 3, in Germany it remained the only chart success at number 38. Let Me Be Your Angel , the second single from the album of the same name, placed 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 . The track Dynamite , which previously reached number 8 on the US R&B charts, was the third release at number 51 in the UK. At number 44 on the Billboard 200 , Let Me Be Your Angel became Lattisaw's most successful album.

By 1985, other albums produced by Narada Michael Walden appeared on Cotillion, including Perfect Combination , a collection of duets with Johnny Gill , who became known as a member of New Edition . Four singles made it to the bottom of the US singles charts between 1981 and 1984. In 1986 Lattisaw moved to Motown , where three more albums were released by 1989. Only the singles Nail It to the Wall and Jump into My Life reached chart positions in England and the United States, respectively. Her last hit, Where Do We Go from Here , a duet with Johnny Gill, was number one on the R&B charts in 1990, but missed the jump into the pop hit lists.

Due to declining success, Lattisaw ended her singing career in the early 1990s and retired into private life to take care of the family. It has only appeared occasionally since then.

In 2010 Lattisaw was the subject of the documentary series Unsung on the Afro-American TV channel TV One. The series is dedicated to R&B stars who received less attention than others. A year later she published her autobiography I Am Not the Same Girl: Renewed .
