The GGZ-Arena , originally and in parlance often the Zwickau stadium , is a football stadium in the Eckersbach district of the Saxon city of Zwickau . It has been the home ground of the FSV Zwickau football club since August 2016 . The facility, built from February 2015 to August 2016 on the area of a former prefabricated building district, has 10,134 covered spaces (6,363 seats and 3,771 standing spaces). The first game in the EUR 21 million sports facility took place on August 22, 2016, the first round of the DFB Cup match between FSV Zwickau and Hamburger SV , which the guests won 1-0. From completion until June 2019, the facility was only briefly called the Zwickau Stadium .
history
Originally the city wanted to renovate the Westsachsenstadion from 1942. Since the estimated costs of 15 million euros in spring 2010 would have doubled through additional work, the city council stopped the renovation work in September 2011. The city therefore decided to have a new stadium built for the club that could meet the requirements of the third division . Construction work on the new venue began on February 6, 2015. The plan was to finish the stadium by the start of the 2016/17 season . Since the construction for the first home game was not yet completed, the club played its first home game in the DDV stadium in Dresden .
The first home win in the new stadium came on September 20, 2016 in the league game against Jahn Regensburg (4-0). The goals were scored by Marcel Bär (3) and Jonas Nietfeld (1). In the first main round of the DFB Cup 2017/18 , TuS Koblenz played its home game against Dynamo Dresden in the stadium in Zwickau. The Oberwerth stadium was not available due to renovation work and a replacement venue could not be found despite an intensive search. In the first main round of the 2019/20 DFB Cup , TuS Dassendorf selected the Zwickau stadium as an alternative venue . The game had to be postponed because of the risk game VfB Lübeck against FC St. Pauli on the Lohmühle . The fifth division Dassendorf lost 0: 3 to the second division Dynamo Dresden in front of 5,673 spectators.
In June 2019 it was announced that the stadium will in future be named "GGZ-Arena" after the municipal building and property company Zwickau (GGZ), owner and owner of the stadium.
