Stanislao Sanseverino

Stanislao Sanseverino (born July 13, 1764 in Naples , † May 11, 1826 in Forlì ) was a Neapolitan cardinal .

Life

He was the son of Pietro Antonio Sanseverino, Prince of Bisignano, and his wife Aurelia Caracciolo from the house of the Prince of Torella. Other cardinals from the same family were Guglielmo Sanseverino , Federico Sanseverino , Antonio Sanseverino and Lucio Sanseverino . Stanislao Sanseverino studied from 1782 at the Pontifical Academy for the Ecclesiastical Nobility . In 1783 he was the papal house prelate and shortly thereafter became the governor of the apostolic chamber . On June 14, 1787 he was a trainee lawyer at the courts of justice of the Apostolic Signature . In 1789 he met the Sacra Consulta as a relator . From December 1789 to February 3, 1793 he was vice- legate in Romagna . From October 30th, 1800 cleric of the Apostolic Chamber, he was President of Roads in 1807 and finally Pro-Governor of Rome from July 12th, 1815 until his cardinal elevation.

Pope Pius VII. Appointed Stanislao Sanseverino in the consistory of March 8, 1816 the cardinal in pectore , this was published in the consistory of 22 July 1816. He received the red hat on July 25 of the same year, and on September 23, 1816 the title diaconia Santa Maria in Portico Campitelli . The Pope granted him a dispensation from the requirement to be ordained a priest , which was extended on July 5, 1817 and again on June 17, 1825. Stanislao Sanseverino was Apostolic Legate in the city and province of Forlì from August 11, 1818. He took part in the conclave of 1823 , which Pope Leo XII. he chose. On March 21, 1825 he opted for the title diaconia Santa Maria ad Martyres .

He was buried in Forlì Cathedral .
