Career

Donets favors the back distances on the short course and has also celebrated its greatest successes there. His greatest success was winning the European short course title in 2007 in Debrecen over the 100 m back. At the same European championships he was also runner-up in the 200 m back and with the Russian 4 × 50 m individual medley relay.

A year later, at the European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven in 2008 , he made it to the finals over the 100 m and 200 m back, but was only able to achieve eighth and last place there.

Only a few weeks later, at the short course world championships in Manchester in 2008 , he was sensationally third in the 100 m and 200 m backseat. His greatest triumph at these world championships, however, was the world championship title with the Russian 4 × 100 m individual medley relay. Together with Evgeni Korotyshkin , Sergei Geibel and Alexander Suchorukow , he was able to win in a new world record time.
