The Star Legend is a cruise ship by Windstar Cruises , which in 1992 as Royal Viking Queen was brought into service.

history

The Royal Viking Queen was laid down on April 26, 1990 under construction number 1071 at Schichau Seebeck in Bremerhaven and launched in May 1991. She should get going for Seabourn Cruise Line, but this failed because of the costs. Therefore, the Royal Viking Line took over the ship on February 29, 1992 and used it for cruises in the Caribbean .

From 1995 on, the ship was named Queen Odyssey for a short time , before it was finally sold to the Seabourn Cruise Line as Seabourn Legend in January 1996 . In 1997, the ship became well known as the location and location of the action film Speed ​​2 - Cruise Control with Sandra Bullock , Jason Patric and Willem Dafoe in the leading roles.

After nearly twenty years of service for Seabourn, the Seabourn Legend was sold to Windstar Cruises in May 2015 and renamed Star Legend .

Sister ships of the Star Legend are the Star Pride and Star Breeze , which are also in service for Windstar Cruises.

In November 2018, Windstar Cruises signed a contract with Fincantieri to extend all sister ships for 200 million euros between spring 2019 and November 2020 at the shipyard in Palermo. The construction of the new central nave section of the Star Legend began on September 6, 2019 in Palermo . The Star Legend has been in the shipyard in Palermo since mid-March 2020 . Initially, the extension should be completed at the end of June, but the extension of the sister ship Star Breeze Asbestos was found in the engine room. The Star Legend should not be ready until the end of August.

Technical data and equipment

The drive of the ship by four diesel engines manufacturer's Ulstein -Bergen with a total of 7,304  kW power . Two of the engines are four-stroke six-cylinder engines, the other two four-stroke twelve-cylinder engines.

Three diesel generators, a diesel generator with 960 kW output (1,200  kVA apparent power) and two diesel generators with 1,200 kW (apparent power 1,500 kVA) are available for generating electricity. An emergency generator with an output of 880 kW (apparent power 1,100 kVA) was also installed.

The ship has eight decks , six of which are accessible to passengers. There is space for 212 passengers on board, who can be accommodated in 106 cabins.
