Staretschwil is a village in Switzerland that has belonged to the municipality of Oberrohrdorf in the canton of Aargau since 1854 . It is located on the edge of the Reuss valley on the southwest slope of the Rohrdorferberg, at an altitude between 500 and 550  m above sea level. M. The built-up area has grown together with that of Oberrohrdorf and Niederrohrdorf since the 1960s .

history

According to place names , Staretschwil was probably settled between the 8th and 11th centuries. The first written mention as Starchoswilare took place in 1124. The village was under the rule of the Kyburger , from 1273 on that of the Habsburgs . From about the first half of the 14th century, Staretschwil belonged to the Rohrdorf office , the area of which was almost congruent with that of the Rohrdorf parish . The largest landowner was the Wettingen monastery , which also exercised the lower jurisdiction . From 1415 the sovereigns were the Confederates and the village was now part of the County of Baden , a common rule . The opening that regulated the relationship between the court lord and the village population came into being around 1420.

In 1775 the village had 129 inhabitants according to a survey by the Birmenstorf pastor Josef Stamm. In 1798 the old system of rule collapsed with the French invasion and the proclamation of the Helvetic Republic . In the new unitary state, Staretschwil was part of the Niederrohrdorf municipality , which belonged to the Baden district of the short-lived Canton of Baden . In 1805 Busslingen , Niederrohrdorf, Oberrohrdorf, Remetschwil and Staretschwil united to form the municipality of Rohrdorf . There were repeated efforts by the village communities to separate the large community again, as the cooperation in organizational and financial matters did not work smoothly. Finally, on May 22, 1854, Rohrdorf was separated into the communities of Niederrohrdorf, Oberrohrdorf and Remetschwil after several unsuccessful requests. Staretschwil merged with Oberrohrdorf.

The village was still very much concerned with independence, which was expressed in complex administrative structures. In addition to the community assembly of the entire community, there was an assembly of local residents and local citizens in Oberrohrdorf and Staretschwil , which means that there were five different bodies. Staretschwil set up its own water supply in 1897 and the electricity network that went into operation in 1911 was not connected to that of Oberrohrdorf. While a cooperative was responsible for the construction and maintenance there, Motor AG set up the Staretschwil network. In the 1850s, the Staretschwilers participated in the construction of the school in Oberrohrdorf, but subsequently felt that they were financially disadvantaged in terms of maintenance, which led to a tense relationship. Finally, in 1894/95, Staretschwil built its own schoolhouse.

The animosity peaked in 1965 when the local residents' assembly decided to break away completely. The Staretschwiler would even have been willing to buy their political independence with massively higher taxes. In view of the fact that extensive investments were foreseeable in the two villages that had meanwhile grown together due to the construction boom at the time, the press judged the attempts at autonomy as critical or even malicious. The local residents of Oberrohrdorf clearly rejected the request for separation and the assembly of the entire community passed the casting vote with a large majority. The anachronistic structures were simplified in 1974 with the dissolution of both local resident communities. However, the local citizens' communities continued to exist, which was an illegal situation from 1978 at the latest, since the Aargau Municipal Law only allows a single body of local citizens in the area of a political municipality . In 2006 the local civil parishes were supposed to be merged, which the Staretschwil residents refused. A successful optional referendum finally made the merger possible in 2007.
