Plug paths ( Vorarlbergerisch : Steackaweaga , about 746  . M above A. ) is a 3.4 km straight line from the center lying parcel of the city Hohenems in Vorarlberg ( Austria ).

Settlement

A Stefan Fenkart, born around 1590, is mentioned as living with his family in Steckenwegen in Hohenemser Reute. In 1837 3 families with 21 family members lived in the Steckenwegen plot.

Today there is still an agricultural building (Steinstraße 26) that is not inhabited.

Topography, geography, location and traffic

The parcel, which is about 3.4 km away from the center of Hohenems, can be reached by motor vehicle via Reutestrasse and the Reute district and then Steinstrasse . The municipal boundary between Hohenems and Dornbirn is about 400 m away. Above the Steckenwegen plot lies the rather inconspicuous, wooded Kienberg (about 997  m above sea level ).

The Steckenweg (also: Stöckaweg) leads past the parcel and is a very old connecting path (footpath) between the Haslach district of the Dornbirn municipality and the Reute district in Hohenems .

The Unterklienbach flows southwest of the parcel in the direction of Unterklien.

Natural monument

The yew (Taxus baccata) natural monument in the Steckenwegen plot (not marked)

The natural monument yew ( Taxus baccata ) in the Steckenwege plot in the Reute district can be found on the way to the so-called book stick . The yew tree used to stand in the open, but is now hardly visible in the midst of young spruce trees . The trunk diameter is about sixty centimeters and the yew tree has a crown radius of about seven meters. This yew is therefore a particularly large and probably very old specimen of this rather rare, slow-growing tree species.

The yew tree in Steckenwegen is the mightiest and oldest yew tree in Hohenems and is also one of the largest examples in Vorarlberg.

Steckenwegen is entered in the biotope inventory of the state of Vorarlberg under the number 30210.

legend

About this path connection from the Hohenems parcel "Steckenwege" and the Steckenweg to the parish in Lustenau exists the legend of "Steäckowiibli" ("Steckenweib") who lived here and who is said to have donated a bell to the Lustenau parish. This bell is said to be in the Loretto Chapel today .
