Stefan Saxen

Stefan Saxen (* 1963 in Basel , Switzerland ) is a Swiss- German sculptor .

Life

Stefan Saxen is the son of a ballet dancer and a ballet dancer. He grew up in Trier and attended high school there. After graduating from high school, he trained as a stonemason in Trier from 1983 to 1986 and worked, among other things, on restoration work in ancient Pergamon in Turkey . He then studied sculpture from 1988 to 1990 at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and from 1990 to 1996 at the Hochschule für Künste (HKM) in Bremen , where he was a student of Waldemar Otto and Bernd Altensteinwas. During and after his studies he worked on Naxos in Greece in 1993 and 1998 .

Since 1994 Saxen regularly sculpture classes in Bremen and Berlin  - in each case as of April in the Cultural Workshop Westend in Bremen- Walle and at four-week summer stays at the maintenance depot Zehlendorf in Berlin- Zehlendorf .

Since 1989 he has participated in various stone sculptor and sculptor symposiums in Germany and Austria and since 2003 he has participated in numerous exhibitions as well as several solo exhibitions.

Saxen mainly creates sculptures from sandstone and marble , his stone carving is figurative and has the representation of the human being as a theme. In addition to whole figures, he also deals with partial aspects such as torso , head, portrait , bust and preferably the relief . According to his own statements, his models are classical sculpture in Greece and sculpture in the Italian Renaissance .

Stefan Saxen lives and works in Bremen.
