Stefan Szyller
Stefan Szyller (born September 4, 1857 in Warsaw , † June 22, 1933 in Kutno ) was a Polish architect and monument protector. He designed important buildings in Warsaw and is considered an important representative of the architectural style of historicism , especially the neo-renaissance .
Life
After attending grammar school in Warsaw, Szyller studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts . In 1881 he graduated from there with distinction (“Big Gold Medal”) and received a scholarship for follow-up studies abroad. He attended universities in various Central and Western European countries and continued his education in both classical and modern architecture. During his time in Italy he was involved in the creation of a project for a monument to the United Italy. In 1888 he received the academic title of architect and moved to Warsaw. Here as in the surrounding area, Szyller created around 700 buildings and restored historic buildings. Szyller was editor-in-chief of the magazine “ Przegląd Techniczny ” and architect of the city of Warsaw.
He received many awards, so in 1904 the Anna Medal (Polish Medal św. Anny ) III. Class for his design for the construction of the Warsaw Politechnika and the second class for the architectural design of the Poniatowski Bridge , as well as the 1931 Art Prize of the City of Warsaw (Polish: Nagroda artystyczna m. Warszawy ). Szyller was a fan of historical architectural styles - especially the Baroque and Renaissance . He developed his own style of form attributed to the Vistula Gothic and published two books:
