Stefano Adabbo

Stefano Adabbo (* in Lucca , Italy ) is an Italian choir director, conductor, composer, pianist and music teacher.

Life

Stefano Adabbo studied piano at the Istituto Musicale “Boccherini” in Lucca, composition, choral music and choral conducting at the Conservatorio di Musica Luigi Cherubini in Florence and orchestral conducting at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan . At the Accademia Musicale Pescarese he deepened this with Mario Gusella. He also studied Classical Antiquity . He began his artistic activity as a pianist and choir director. In 1982 he became assistant to Romano Gandolfi, the choirmaster of the Teatro della Scala in Maila. Here he worked for five seasons . Afterwards he was choirmaster at the Teatro Comunale di Genova, at the Teatro Comunale di Firenze and for four years at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice. Here he worked on many productions such as I Capuleti ei Montecchi , the Great Mass in C minor , Fidelio , Stabat Mater by Gioacchino Rossini , as well as Ernani , Simon Boccanegra and Messa da Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi . Afterwards he was choirmaster at the Istituzione dei Concerti and the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari . He has conducted the choir of the Teatro Regio di Parma and Coro Lirico Toscano several times . The conductors he worked with included Claudio Abbado , Riccardo Muti , Gianandrea Gavazzeni , Lorin Maazel , Zubin Mehta , Giuseppe Sinopoli and Riccardo Chailly . He has acted as a piano accompanist for various singers in Italy, Europe and the Far East . As a conductor, he conducted various works of symphonic choral music, such as Requiem and Coronation Mass by Mozart, Stabat mater and Petite Messe solennelle by Rossini and Messa da Requiem by Verdi. He also directed various opera performances by Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti , Verdi, Giacomo Puccini , Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari , Kurt Weill and other composers. He also devoted himself to spreading the music of the 20th century . He founded the Agon Ensemble with which he performed contemporary works such as Pierrot Lunaire by Arnold Schönberg and L'histoire du Soldat by Igor Stravinsky . Since 2001 he has held the chair for choral conducting and choral repertoire at the School for Music Education at the Antonio Buzzolla Music Conservatory in Adria . In 2007 he performed Luigi Boccherini's Stabat mater three times with the Associazione Flam di Lucca and the orchestra of the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca. In addition to his activities as a conductor and choir director, he works as a piano accompanist for various instrumentalists and singers in Italy, Europe and the Far East . They include the soprano Rima Tawil, the Italian tenor Mario Malagnini, the Italian violinist Alessandro Perpich, and the Finnish violinist Jenni Kuronen.
