coat of arms

Steina coat of arms
Blazon : “In red a golden (yellow)“ W ”whose upper ends represent key beards turned outwards. In the middle of the shield is a floating silver (white) fir with roots. "
Reasons for the coat of arms: The coat of arms designed by the heraldist Gustav Völker was approved by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior on December 5, 1950. The "W" refers to the influential Watterode family, who had crossed fishhooks in their coat of arms; the key-beards should remind of this. The Harz spruce stands for the community as a health resort in the southern Harz.

Culture and sights

  • The Steina Glass Museum preserves in its rooms the memory of an old handicraft that was important for the southern Harz. It shows what was made of glass here over 300 years ago . In September 2010 the glass museum was rebuilt and made barrier-free.
  • Sights are the Römerstein , the Karst area and the Evangelical Katharinen Church.
  • For years the Kiepenmarkt and the Kielkoppfest have been taking place on the first weekend in August, the largest events in Steina.
  • The "Volksbühne Steina" - an amateur theater - is at home in the old Kurhaus Steina .
