Nüxei is a hamlet near Bad Sachsa in the Lower Saxony district of Göttingen in Germany .

Nüxei is located on the federal highway 243 between Osterhagen and Mackenrode .

history

Already in 1420 the name appeared as a desert "Nytzenhain". The next mention is from 1557 and is "Nichsehe". The graphical and temporal differences between the two written documents suggest that the settlement fell into desolation in the meantime . A possible starting word is the Old High German personal name Nizo , connected with -hagen (enclosed land area), which became -hain .

On 19 June 1944, was in Nüxei concentration camp established that the concentration camp complex from October 1944 Mittelbau was assumed and a subcamp of which also belongs to this camp complex concentration camp Wieda was. Around 300 concentration camp inmates of SS Construction Brigade III had to do track construction, earthwork and clearing work for the construction of the Helmetalbahn . After an evacuation transport by train and death marches on foot, most of the surviving prisoners in Gardelegen were murdered in the massacre in the Isenschnibber field barn on April 13, 1945. A memorial stone on the former camp site reminds of the history of the Nüxei concentration camp.
