The Steinbeck is a tributary of the Schwinge in the Stade district . The lower half of the stream flows through the " Steinbeck " nature reserve of the same name, about 116 hectares in size and 4 kilometers long (identification NSG LÜ 261).
The Steinbeck is created at Helmste . It is fed by several source streams. It initially runs in a north-westerly direction near Helmste, before swiveling in a northerly direction behind Helmste near Zuckerberg. Shortly after the crossing through the district road 30, which connects the state road 124 and the federal road 73 , the Steinbeck flows from the right to the Helmster Moorgraben, which u. a. Parts of the Feerner Moors drained. Here the Steinbeck changes its course again in a north-westerly direction, which it maintains until Hagen . In Hagen the Steinbeck then runs in a south-westerly direction to Hagenermühle. There the stream is dammed up to form a mill pond. The last stretch to the point where it flows into the Schwinge again runs in a north-westerly direction.
The course of the Steinbeck is largely straightened. Only in the area of the “Steinbeck” nature reserve above county road 30 and below state road 124 does the brook run partially close to nature through alluvial forests . When the stream was straightened, the bottom was also significantly changed. The naturally occurring gravel substrates are often missing.
While the brook in the area of the nature reserve "Steinbeck" flows through a predominantly natural lowland , the agricultural areas on the upper reaches of the brook extend to the edge of the embankment.
