The Feerner Moor is an approximately 5000 year old high moor in the Stade district , its current area is 184 hectares .
location
The moor lies on the Stader Geestrücken , roughly in the middle of the triangle between the towns of Dollern , Hagen and Helmste . In 1991 it was declared a nature reserve (registration number: NSG LÜ 189), and part of the Feerner Moor is also a fauna-flora-habitat area of the European Union.
history
In the bog area was on larger parts in hand peat peat mined. Dense approach forest, which mostly consisted of pine trees , grew on the unpeeled areas . The former peat cuttings are partly filled with water. The first open water with a rectangular ground plan are now partially Torfmoose and wollgras rich Heiden overgrown.
Numerous measures had been taken since the 1980s to restore the moor to its natural state. The decussing and the damming of the drainage ditches are now having an effect, so that open areas have been created in which the typical raised bog vegetation shows its natural growth. Little by little, a typical bog fauna of birds, amphibians and reptiles has returned.
