The wild bird reserve Nordkehdingen is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Balje in the integrated municipality of Nordkehdingen in the district of Stade .
The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 117 is 540 hectares in size. It is completely part of the EU bird sanctuary "Lower Elbe". A small part of the protected area is also part of the FFH area "Lower Elbe". In the north the nature reserve borders directly on the nature reserve " Außenendeich Nordkehdingen I ", in the west on the " Vogelschutzgebiet Hullen ". On the other side of the Oste , the nature reserves " Ostesee " and " Hadelner und Belumer Außenendeich " are connected.
The nature reserve, which consists of three sub-areas, is located south of the Elbe in the Baljer and Hörner outer dyke behind the Elbe dyke, roughly north of Balje to the eastern barrier . It places a large meadow and pasture area under protection, which serves as a resting and feeding area for waders and water birds as well as a breeding area for meadow birds . The grassland areas are numerous trenches crisscrossed associated with the Northern Sielgraben. Through the northern Sielgraben that a sluice is connected to the Oste, the water balance of the surfaces can be controlled.
The area has been a nature reserve since May 16, 1985. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Stade.
