The reed and water area Krautsand / Ostend is a small nature reserve in the Elbmarsch of the Kehdinger Land in the district of Stade . It consists of a nearly 9 hectare large reed area , which is supplemented by free water surfaces.
The nature reserve offers a habitat for numerous rare bird species. Among other things, teal , teal , shoveler , bittern , water rail and marsh harrier are observed . Furthermore, different reed warbler species , bearded tit and black tern gave cause for protection. The nature reserve was created anthropogenically through soil excavation; it has had the official registration number NSG LÜ 074 since its establishment in 1980.
