The Baltic sea is an oxbow lake of the Oste 7 km east of Otter village , in the district of Cuxhaven , Lower Saxony .

description

The lake was created in the 1960s when the eastern barrier was built , for which the river bed was moved. The oxbow lake was cordoned off in the north by the main dike to the Elbe. In the south, the connection to the Oste was filled in, so that a still water was created.

The northern part of the Ostsee is under nature protection. West of the nature reserve on the eastern peninsula between the Ostesee and the Oste is the Natureum with the Elbe Coast Park . Part of the area was originally part of the nature reserve, but was abolished with the construction of the Natureum, in the place of which a bird watching station previously existed.

The southern part of the 29 hectare Baltic Sea is used as a bathing lake and for water skiing.
