The Holzurburg am Bederkesaer See is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony city of Geestland and the municipality of Steinau in the combined municipality of Land Hadeln in the district of Cuxhaven .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG LÜ 275 is 625  hectares in size. A 550 hectare part of the nature reserve is part of the FFH area "Ahlen-Falkenberger Moor, Seen bei Bederkesa". In addition, 8.8 hectares of the nature reserve form the "Wehdenbruch" natural forest reserve, which was designated in 1985 .

The area has been a nature reserve since August 30, 2007. The former nature reserve "Hörner Moor und Nordostufer Bederkesaer See", which was designated in January 1985, and the former nature reserve "Wehdenbruch", designated in December 1985, have been incorporated into the nature reserve. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Cuxhaven.

The nature reserve is located northeast of Bad Bederkesa between Lake Bederkesa and the Elbe-Weser shipping route . The nature reserve consists of different landscapes.

The largest part of which forms the Holzurburg, one from a deciduous forest embossed forest area on a Geest move with the adjacent south Holzurburger Moor, a predominantly with pines and birches covered bog area. The superficially drained raised bog was reforested with conifers over 100 years ago. There are still isolated high moor areas with bell heather and cotton grass .

In the north-west of the Holzurburg are the damp Wehdenbruch, which is characterized by broken forest and moorland, and the Wehdenwiesen used as grassland . This area formed the former “Wehdenbruch” nature reserve with the “Wehdenbruch” natural forest reserve. Most of the bog areas are pitted . The nature reserve is crossed here by an oxbow lake and the Elbe-Weser shipping route. In the north of the area there are several ponds created for nature conservation purposes .

Southeast of the Holzurburg is that with reeds , willows and alder covered North Shore and Verlandungs surfaces of the Bederkesaer lake and its included in the protected area northeastern water. The water level of the diked lake has not shown any natural dynamics since the 1990s and is artificially regulated. The bottom of the lake is thickly covered with mud .

To the east of the Holzurburg is the Hörner Moor, which is characterized by quarry and coniferous forest. The Hörner Moor and the northeast bank of the Bederkesaer See formed the former nature reserve "Hörner Moor and Northeast Bank of Bederkesaer See". The Hörner Moor is traversed by the Ankeloher Randkanal, which flows into the Bederkesaer See. Between the Ankeloher Randkanal and the Holzurburg there are rinsing areas with ponds.

In the south of the forest area there is an almost 4 km long educational forest trail, which is laid out as a circular route. The circular route runs through the forest area to the banks of the Bederkesaer See and along moor areas back into the forest area. There is also a 7 km long circular lake trail around the Bedakesaer See. The circular route mainly runs on the protective dike and overlaps with the forest nature trail in the north of the lake. The lake and the surrounding areas are clearly visible from two observation towers. Both circular routes lead past a prehistoric rampart, which has been known as the “ Holzurburg ” since around 1900 and is located in the south of the forest area. Information about the forest area and the lake as well as the flora and fauna can be found on several boards.
