The Aßbütteler Moor is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony communities of Wanna and Nordleda in the combined community of Land Hadeln and the city of Cuxhaven in the district of Cuxhaven .
The nature reserve is 252 hectares . It is part of the FFH area "Aßbüttler und Herrschaftliches Moor ". The area has been a nature reserve since September 17, 2010. The 183 hectare former nature reserve of the same name with the NSG LÜ 083 label was incorporated into the nature reserve. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Cuxhaven, which manages the nature reserve under the registration number NSG CUX-006.
The nature reserve is located northwest of Wanna and east of Autobahn 27 in the south of the Elbmarsch in the transition area to the Geest . It provides a high moor area under protection, the beginning of the 20th century drained and partly by Handtorfstiche was abgetorft. The area is predominantly characterized by birch forests. Less drained parts of the bog are overgrown with broken birch forest. In the central areas of the nature reserve there are near-natural raised bog remains and larger heather areas. In the north of the nature reserve, areas are less overgrown with birch, here pipe grasses and gale bushes are widespread .
Parts of the moorland have been cultivated as grassland , which today is mainly used as hay meadows . The area is drained to the north via the trenches in the Elbmarsch to the Elbe .
