The E-Flexer class is a ferry class under construction from the Swedish shipping company Stena RoRo.
history
The RoPax - Ferries are from the Chinese AVIC-Weihai- shipyard built. The construction contract for four units, which are to be delivered in 2019 and 2020, was signed on March 11, 2016. An option for four more ships was also agreed in the construction contract.
The ships are to be used by Stena Line in the Irish Sea and operate between Holyhead and Dublin and Belfast and Liverpool .
Construction of the first ship, the Stena Estrid, began in August 2017, and the keel was laid on February 2, 2018. The Stena Estrid was delivered on November 15, 2019 . Since January 2020 it is between Holyhead and Dublin technology where the Stena Superfast X replaced.
The second ship of the class, the Stena Edda , was delivered on January 15, 2020 and has been in service between Belfast and Liverpool since March 2020, replacing the Stena Lagan there .
The third ship in the class, the Galicia , has been chartered to Brittany Ferries for an initial five years . It is due to be delivered in spring 2020 and will operate between the UK and Spain . It is adapted to Brittany Ferries' needs during construction. So it is z. B. get additional cabins for passengers.
In April 2018, Stena RoRo ordered a fifth ship in the series which, after delivery , will be chartered to DFDS Seaways for ten years with an option to buy . It is to be used under the name of Côte d'Opale in the English Channel between Calais and Dover.
In May 2018, a sixth ship was ordered, which will be delivered in 2021 and again chartered to Brittany Ferries. The ship, named Salamanca, will be powered by LNG.
In July 2018, Stena Line ordered two more ships of the class, which are to be delivered in 2022 and used in the Stena Line network. With a length of 239.7 meters and a loading capacity of 1,200 passengers and 3,600 lane meters, the ships will be larger than the previous ships in the class. At the same time, an option for three more ships in the class was agreed.
The first option was exercised in March 2019 with another ship to be chartered out to Britanny Ferries. The ship is to be named Santoña and will be completed in autumn 2023.

The ships were designed and energetically optimized by Stena together with Deltamarin and should emit 25% less CO 2 than the ferries previously used by Stena RoRo in the Irish Sea. It is powered by two twelve-cylinder - four stroke - diesel engines , each with 12,600 kW power . The engines are to be operated with marine diesel oil and prepared for a later installation of scrubbers and the conversion to drive with liquefied natural gas and methanol. The sixth ship in the series, the Salamanca , is to be built from the outset with a propulsion powered by liquefied natural gas.
There are 3,100 lane meters available on the RoRo decks . There is space for 927 passengers on board. The ships will be equipped with 175 cabins. The seventh and eighth ship of the class will be larger with 3,600 gauge meters and 1,200 passengers in 263 cabins.
