Stena Seabridger MkII is a two-unit class of Ro-Ro ferries operated by Stena Line . The ships are based on the previous class , but have a fourth ro-ro deck and thus a greater capacity. The design of the previous class was revised by Steen Friis Design.

history

The ships ordered in 2007 and delivered in 2011 were built for Stena Line by Samsung Heavy Industries in Geoje , South Korea . Both ships are used on the Hoek van Holland – Killingholme route. The passage takes around eleven hours.

The ships replaced the previous structures used on the route, which were chartered to the Canadian shipping company Marine Atlantic for use between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland . Since the ships had to be extensively converted for their new use, they were taken out of service at the beginning of October 2010 and temporarily replaced by charter ships, the Coraggio and the Finnarrow .

The Stena Transporter was temporarily used in October and November 2016 on the Hoek van Holland– Harwich route.

description

The vessels are powered by two MAN - diesel engines / type 9L48 60B, each with 10,800  kW power driven by STX were built under license. The ships reach a maximum speed of 24  knots . Two diesel generators are available for power generation, which are driven by two MAN STX diesel engines of the type 7L21 / 31 with an output of 1,450 kW each. The engines are equipped with SCR catalytic converters. At the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016, both ships of the class were retrofitted with exhaust gas washers in order to be able to comply with the stricter exhaust gas values that are considered the SECA area in the North Sea when using heavy fuel .

The ships are equipped with two bow thrusters , each with an output of 1,900 kW.

The superstructures are located in the forward area of the ships. The ships have four ro-ro decks. There is an open ro-ro deck behind the deckhouse. Three more ro-ro decks are located below the weather deck. The ro-ro deck directly below the weather deck is open towards the stern . A total of 4,056  lane meters are available on which 260 trucks or trailers can be transported. 120 power connections are available for trucks or trailers with temperature-controlled goods. The ro-ro decks are accessible via a stern ramp and connected to one another by ramps. The maximum available height for rolling cargo is 4.9 meters.

The ships are marketed with a capacity of 300 passengers. There are 130 cabins available for passengers and 34 cabins for the crew.
