Stephan Drakulich

Stephan Drakulich (born before 1977) is a German-American opera and musical singer ( tenor , countertenor ) and singing teacher.

Life

He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from Boise State University , Idaho and a Master of Fine Arts in Acting and Singing from Southern Illinois University . He then trained as an opera singer at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the San Francisco Opera , where he also received masterclasses from opera stars such as Luigi Alva , Renato Capecchi , Plácido Domingo , George London and Luciano Pavarotti . He was a prizewinner in several competitions, including at the Metropolitan Opera of New York and at WGN Radio Chicago .

He got his first European engagement in 1977 in Düsseldorf at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and began an international opera career in Austria, Holland, Switzerland, France and Japan with over 30 main roles in his field. In 1986 he played Gus / Growltiger in the original German cast of Cats at the Operettenhaus Hamburg . He made his UK debut in 1992 with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in a production by Trevor Nunn as Peter Grimes . In 1998 he returned to the Hamburg Operettenhaus in Cats and the following year he also played in The Phantom of the Opera . His musical and operetta repertoire includes another 25 roles a. a. the Conférenciér in Cabaret , Snoopy in Charlie Brown, Jimmy Mahoney in Mahagonny , and Camille / Danilo in The Merry Widow . He was also seen in the Lulu production by Graham Vick at the Glyndebourne Festival 1996. He has been teaching singing since 1999, including at the Joop van den Ende Academy in Hamburg.
