history

Due to its location in the Danube Valley, there are early traces of settlement in Straß. The Roman road runs directly north of Straß , which ran from Parrodunum (Burgheim) along the Danube to Castra Regina (Regensburg) and further. In the Mühlhart forest department on the southern Donaurain there is a Roman watchtower with a double wall and moat.
The immigrant Bavarians named the place they founded after the still visible route of the old Roman road. The Strasser family, the most powerful and influential ministerial family of the Counts of Lechsgemünd-Graisbach , resided in Straß and owned their own property in Straß . From 1390 the Lords of Kreut owned the property, which was then sold in 1643 to the Silbermann family from Neuburg an der Donau , who were related by marriage to the Kreutern. In 1840 the last heirs of Silbermann sold the Hofmark to the state. In 1910 the renaissance castle was demolished except for the remains of the wall.

When an F-86 of the Neuburger Jagdgeschwader 74 crashed in Straß on October 30, 1963, four people were killed and eleven injured.

The Catholic parish of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary belongs to the Burgheim parish community. The parish also includes the village of Moos and the wasteland of Langwiedmühle . The parish church is predominantly a building from 1400, the tower is from 1320. In the church there are numerous epitaphs of Kreuter and Silbermann.

Until July 1, 1972, the independent community of Straß belonged to the district of Neuburg an der Donau and then fell to the newly founded district of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen with the regional reform in Bavaria . On October 1, 1973 it was incorporated into the Burgheim market.
