Stripperella is an American animated television series directed by Stan Lee that first aired between 2003 and 2004.

action

The striptease dancer Erotica Jones has a double identity as the superhero "Stripperella". The figure is very similar to Pamela Anderson , who she also dubbed in the original American version . Godmother for the naming is the comic figure Barbarella by the French draftsman Jean-Claude Forest from 1962 - later also published in book form and filmed in 1968 with Jane Fonda in the lead role.

Whenever her “chief” wants to use her help as “agent 69”, Erotica's navel piercing flashes . She is then directed to her next assignment (location) by telephone.

But even in everyday situations, on the open road or at events, she suddenly recognizes a danger that must be averted. Immediately she disappears quickly (in a box, behind a fat woman or something else) and turns into "Stripperella", who opposes her evil opponents Pushy, Klinko, Cheapo or the little sausage .

If someone thinks they recognize her, she always denies this most energetically. Apart from her “chief” only her “shrink” seems to have knowledge of her dual role. Lying on his couch, she tries to get rid of the anguish caused by her double identity.

Allusions

Erotica Jones aka Stripperella has tattoos in the same places as Pamela Anderson.

In the series, numerous allusions are to be found mainly in popular movies: Even the title of the first episode is a reference to Beauty and the Beast (ger .: Beauty and the Beast ). The name of the antagonist in the fourth episode refers to the names of two Bond girls in Goldfinger and Octopussy . Not only is the title of the episode Der Zorn von Klinko an allusion to the film Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan , there are also allusions in the episode itself to the films The Silence of the Lambs and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory . The episode The Bridesmaid contains an allusion to the feature film The Graduation . In Man Licks Only Twice, there is a scene that depicts the film Dr. Strange or: How I Learned to Love the Bomb Quotes; the title of the episode is also a parody of the title of a James Bond film. During the episode Back to School , a statue of the mascot of the American restaurant chain Big Boy can be seen for a moment . In addition, West Side Story and the American sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter are alluded to in this episode , and the original English title of the episode parodies the title of an episode of the American animated series Schoolhouse Rock . At least in the English original there is a reference to the movie Ocean's Eleven in the eleventh episode , which is also about a casino robbery. The original title of the twelfth episode alludes to the title of the novel The Return of the King by JRR Tolkien . A scene in the episode The Curse of the Wer-Beaver is very similar to a scene in the film The Jaws .

production

The pilot episodes 1 and 2 Dick im Laden (two- parter ) were created by Sunmin Image Pictures and are characterized by pleasing animations and good character design. Episodes 3 to 6 were then taken over by Mook Animation , which were very much based on the specification; no break in quality can be seen here. This came from episode 7 and continued until the last episode 13 for the time being, for which Wang Film Productions are responsible and Stripperella set the animation technology to a slightly lower level.

The series was also produced with the help of The Firm and Nickelodeon Animation Studios .

Charisma

The episodes of the series ran for the first time in 2003 on the US television channel Spike TV . While the first broadcast in the USA was subject to censorship (unrecognizable nipples), the series ran uncensored in Australia, Great Britain, Italy and Germany.

Trivia

In addition to the television series, a comic book was originally planned to be published by Humanoids Publishing . This did not materialize, however, because of a disagreement between Pamela Anderson and Spike TV .

All 13 episodes were released in 2005 on DVD in an uncensored version and with a new title song.
