Stuart Hayes (born April 16, 1979 ) is a retired British triathlete and Olympic competitor from 2012.

Career

As a teenager he was only active as a swimmer and at the age of 15, Stuart Hayes started triathlon.

In 1998 and again in 1999 he was fourth in the Junior World Triathlon Championship. In 2002 he was third in the U23 class at the Duathlon World Championship.

Known as a strong swimmer, Hayes competes for Team Dillon - mainly in races over the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running). In 2012, the then 33-year-old competed at the Summer Olympics in London, where he finished 37th.

In the 2016 season, Stuart Hayes switched to the longer distance and in March Hayes competed in the triathlon middle distance (1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running) for the first time. In September he finished second at the Ironman 70.3 Weymouth and in October second at the first Ironman 70.3 race in Hefei, China.

Stuart Hayes has not appeared internationally since 2016. He works as a coach in Team Dillon with his wife Michelle .

Private

In January 2012 he married the triathlete Michelle Dillon (* 1973) and lives in Twickenham , London.
