action

Germany in the post-war period: After a period of hardship, Ursula remarried without telling her husband Richard that she was engaged once and had a child. She assumes that his father, Achim Lenau, died in Russia. She lost her daughter Martina while fleeing the east and believes that she is dead too. She is now the mother of a boy named Helmut and lives in well-off circumstances. When she discovers a girl's want ad in a magazine, she thinks she recognizes her daughter. She is deeply shaken, but is very afraid to tell her husband about this illegitimate child, after she has remained silent so far. When she finally tells him everything, he puts pressure on her not to do anything at first so as not to endanger his upcoming promotion with a scandal. When Richard's sister Johanna finds out, she persuades him to adopt the girl who lives in a home. Since another woman, the wealthy Ulla Krawinke, claims to be Martina's mother, the case has to go to court. Achim, who was believed to be dead, has meanwhile returned from a Soviet prisoner-of-war camp, which is another burden on Ursula's marriage.

Martina is awarded to her mother in court, but she immediately passes the girl on to her father so as not to endanger her marriage and her husband's promotion. Ultimately, the marriage fails anyway. Richard Gothe takes Ursula away from her little son Helmut. When the couple got into an argument, Ursula was seriously injured in a fall down the stairs, which Richard did not want. Richard Gothe comes to the hospital and gives his wife and child free, giving Ursula, Achim, Martina and Helmut the opportunity to become a family.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films spoke of a "(television) melodrama as a remake of a melodramatic cinema film from 1955, which was committed to its time of creation and which could not deny its original, a sentimental illustrated novel". It also said: "What was justified as entertainment in the years of construction and the economic boom, today sounds rather antiquated."

kino.de was of the opinion that this story “sounds like a 'dime novel'”, of which “not only the battered husband of the stunned mother is convinced, but also the viewer as the story progresses”. Even when it was made into a movie in 1955, "a (staged) melodrama was accompanied by a (real) life drama", "and the production company Ziegler Film [had] tried hard to meet both requirements in 2007". It is gratifying that “Degeto's model wife Christine Neubauer is allowed to play the trembling woman here once”.

Tilmann P. Gangloff's verdict for tittelbach.tv was rather negative: “Strong material. Weaker book. An unbearably acting Neubauer! "Outfitter Heike Bauersfeld tried hard to bring the 1950s back to life as authentically as possible. The lovingly put together Gelsenkirchen Baroque in Richard and Ursula Gothe's apartment, the costumes, the cars: everything is fine. The fact that 'Suchkind 312' is still almost unbearable in places is due to Christine Neubauer, who declaims even the most banal lines of dialogue such as great drama and always puts them on so thickly that in the theater one also takes a back seat would still be embarrassed. Sometimes Ms. Neubauer acts as if she were not playing for Gabi Kubach, but for (silent film maestro) FW Murnau ”.

"Strong story, far too weak script"
