Toxicological data
As far as possible and customary, SI units are used. Unless otherwise noted, the data given apply to standard conditions .

Sulfathiazole (STZ) is an antibiotic from the sulfonamide class of active ingredients . It is used, among other things, in animal breeding and beekeeping (against American foulbrood ); according to EU regulation, its use in this area is no longer permitted, as resistance has already occurred several times (outside the EU, sometimes still legal). In veterinary medicine outside of the areas mentioned, it is still permitted.

In human medicine, the active ingredient is used, for example in combination with corticoids , in preparations for the treatment of infectious inflammatory conditions of the skin.

Sulfathiazole pure: a pale yellowish, crystalline powder; a white piece of paper for comparison

Culture

Sulfathiazole appears in various literary works of the modern age, for example in Kurt Vonnegut's novel Katzenwiege and in various of his short stories. In Otto Preminger's film Exodus , the American nurse Kitty Fremont tells Dr. Odenheimer that sulfathiazole can be used as a remedy for impetigo contagiosa . In John Irving's fourth novel, Garp and How He Saw the World , sulfathiazole appears in the first chapter when Garp's mother sees it being distributed to soldiers of World War II .
