Jonathan Summerton (born April 21, 1988 in Kissimmee , Florida ) is an American racing driver .

Career

Summerton began his motorsport career in karting in 2002 and remained active in the sport until 2004. In 2003 he made his first experiences in formula racing in a regional skip barber series. In 2004 he started in the US Formula BMW and finished third in the championship with four wins. His teammate Andreas Wirth won the title. After starting two races of the German Formula BMW in 2004, he competed in full in this series in 2005. With a podium finish, he finished the season in tenth place. He also took part in four races of the US Formula BMW.

In 2006 Summerton moved to Mücke Motorsport in the Formula 3 Euro Series . With a win at the season finale at the Hockenheimring , he finished ninth overall. So he left Sébastien Buemi , who was his teammate this season, behind. In the 2006/2007 A1GP season , the racing driver started for the US team on four race weekends in the A1 Grand Prix . His best finish was a second place. After the American was initially without a cockpit in the summer, he started in the second half of the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series season for RC Motorsport as a guest starter at three race weekends. Summerton then replaced Buddy Rice in the 2007/2008 A1GP season and started at eight race weekends. He won a race.

Summerton then returned to North America and started for Newman Wachs Racing in the Atlantic Championship . With two wins, he finished the season as the second best newcomer in third place. He prevailed against his teammate Simona de Silvestro within the team . In 2009 he stayed in the Atlantic Championship. After starting the season with Genoa Racing , he returned to Newman Wachs Racing after race four and became a teammate of John Edwards . With four wins, he had as many points and wins as Edwards at the end of the season. Since Edwards had achieved four and Summerton three second places, Edwards won the championship title and Summerton was runner-up. He also took part in the first six races of the Indy Lights for RLR / Andersen Racing . With a second place as the best result, he was 17th overall. After the Atlantic Championship was discontinued, he moved to Walker Racing within the Indy Lights in 2010 . After the first race he was replaced by Dan Clark and did not contest another race in the season, which he finished in 28th place in the overall standings.
