Sund (Faroe Islands)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sund is a small town in the Faroe Islands on the south east coast of the main island of Streymoy .

Sund takes its name from the sound that separates Streymoy and Eysturoy , and at the southern end of which it is located. At the same time, the place forms the entrance of the fjord Kaldbaksfjørður , which cuts from here west into the coast of Streymoy.

Originally, Sund consisted of a farm. Then a power station was set up together with a small seaport to relieve that of the capital in the south. This idea was dropped, however, and so the port is used to manage the nearby aquaculture .
