Syðradalur [ ˈsiːɹaˌdɛalʊɹ ] ( Danish name : Sydredal , literally: " Southern Valley") is a place in the Faroe Islands on the south west coast of the main island of Streymoy . However, there is also a place on Kalsoy called Syðradalur . (For linguistic differentiation, see Syðradalur .)

Syðradalur has been part of the capital municipality since 1997 : Tórshavn . Before that the place belonged to the Argja kommuna . In 2015 8 people lived in the village and there are two farms there. Zip code is FO-177.

Like its northern neighbor, Norðradalur , Syðradalur is located west of the capital Tórshavn, belongs to its municipality and offers a view of the islands of Koltur and Vágar . As the place name suggests, Syðradalur is surrounded by high mountains. In the past, the accessibility of the place was made more difficult by the strong surf that prevails at this point on the coast. After centuries of perpetual seclusion now exists since 1982 over the southern neighboring Velbastaður a connection to the road network of the archipelago. However, there is no direct coastal road to Norðradalur.
