Sven Schaffrath (born July 13, 1984 in Düren ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Sven Schaffrath began playing soccer in the village of Binsfeld, east of Düren , at the SG Germania village club and then joined Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the age of 14 . There he went through the youth teams and was soon used in the second team. From 2002 he played three years for Leverkusen, one year in the regional league and two years in the Oberliga Nordrhein . Although the Rhinelander returned to the Regionalliga in 2005, Schaffrath no longer saw enough prospects for himself and he left the club.

In the next two years the defender played for Wuppertaler SV Borussia . But he did not play through a season and in particular the second half of the 2006/07 season was disappointing, which is why he moved to Rot Weiss Ahlen within the Regionalliga Nord . There he became an integral part of the defense chain. In the end, Ahlen surprisingly rose as champions in the 2nd Bundesliga . There he only came to three missions, so that he moved to FC Erzgebirge Aue in January 2009 . There he was able to fight for a regular place as a left defender straight away. After a season without a professional contract, Schaffrath signed for the 2011/12 season with VfB Lübeck in the Regionalliga Nord. After a year with the North Germans, he returned to North Rhine-Westphalia in 2012 and joined the reserve of Alemannia Aachen , which played in the Middle Rhine League. In March 2013 Schaffrath played for the first time for the professional team of Alemannia and made his debut in the 3rd division . From summer 2013–2015 he was coach and player of the Alemannia second team at the same time.

After Christian Benbennek's resignation, Schaffrath was interim trainer for the 1st team at Alemannia Aachen from December 5th to 31st. Aïmen Demai was at his side as an interim trainer .

Sven Schaffrath was also a youth national player and played around 30 times for Germany from the U-15 to the U-20, in a year with players like Bastian Schweinsteiger , Michael Rensing , Piotr Trochowski and Mario Gómez .
