Sverre Geir Istad (born January 3, 1965 in Voss ) is a former Norwegian biathlete .

Sverre Istad is the son of world champion and Olympic medalist Jon Istad and cousin of Gro Marit Istad-Kristiansen . He was active for Voss IL . He took the first time in 1987 at Biathlon World Championships in part and was 28th in the sprint. The high point of his career was the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary . In the sprint, after one error in prone and four errors in standing, he finished 30th at the same time as Lyle Nelson . At the Biathlon World Championships in 1990 , which were held in several locations due to the capricious weather , Istad at Holmenkollen in Oslo was 25th in the sprint and with Geir Einang , Frode Løberg and Gisle Fenne sixth in the team race. In 1991 the Norwegian won the World Championship silver medal behind the team from Italy in the team race with Jon Åge Tyldum , Ivar Ulekleiv and Løberg.

Nationally, Istad won twelve medals between 1984 and 1993, including seven titles. His most successful year was 1990 , when he not only won the relay and team races in Voss , but also won his only individual title with the sprint title. With the relay and the team from the Buskeruds region , he won six titles alongside athletes such as Gisle Fenne, Eirik Kvalfoss , Magne Istad , Lars Fosse and Terje Breivik .
