Geir Einang was active for Vestre Slidre Idrettslag . In the second half of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s he belonged to the Norwegian biathlon elite and to the expanded world elite of sport. The first major event was the 1986 Biathlon World Championships at Holmenkollen in Oslo , where he was 26th of the sprint and fifth in relay with Gisle Fenne , Eirik Kvalfoss and Øivind Nerhagen . This was followed by the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , where the Norwegian was eleventh in the sprint and sixth in the relay race with Frode Løberg , Fenne and Kvalfoss. In 1989 Einang won his first international medal in the relay race with bronze at the world championship in Feistritz an der Drau with Sylfest Glimsdal , Fenne and Kvalfoss. He was also 27th in the sprint race and 44th in the individual. The Biathlon World Championships in 1990 , which were hampered by the capricious weather , initially brought a 38th place in the individual at the original World Cup location Minsk . In the team race in Oslo he came in sixth with Løberg, Sverre Istad and Fenne. The relay race could only be held in Kontiolahti , where he with Fenne, Løberg and Kvalfoss missed the bronze medal against the GDR by less than four seconds and was fourth. His last world championships ran in 1991 in Lahti , where he won relay bronze again with Kvalfoss, Jon Åge Tyldum and Fenne. He finished fifth in the sprint and sixth in the individual. The last major event was the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville , where Einang was used in all three races. With 66th place in the sprint and 36th place in the individual, he could not confirm the results of the World Championships of the previous year and was fifth with Løberg, Fenne and Kvalfoss as the starting runners of the relay. In the Biathlon World Cup he was able to regularly reach the points, and he was also among the top ten again and again. In a sprint, he reached a podium finish in third place in 1988 .
Nationally, Einang won 14 medals between 1986 and 1992. He was able to win Norwegian championship titles twice. At the championships in Tingvoll and Dombås in 1988 he won the sprint title, and in 1992 with Ola Staxrud , Ivar Ulekleiv and Sylfest Glimsdal as a representative of the Oppland region in Skrautvål in the relay race.
