At the easternmost tip of the Sognefjord , called Årdalsfjord, is Årdalstangen with the loading area of the Hydro aluminum works, which is 11 km further north in Øvre Årdal. To the northeast of Øvre Årdal extends the Utladal , where you can hike from Hjelle in the Vettisgjel gorge to the 275 m high imposing Vettisfoss . A real experience is the private pass road, the Tindeveg , which is passable in summer, which winds up in narrow serpentines from Øvre Årdal and leads over the fjell to Turtagrø on the Sognefjellvegen (toll road, conditionally suitable for caravans).
